What is Santa Barbara County Food Action Network (SBCFAN)?

The Santa Barbara County Food Action Network (SBCFAN) broadens and accelerates the activation of Santa Barbara County Food Action Plan goals by connecting, aligning, and activating a network of food system changemakers – from producer to consumer and everything in between – to develop a robust local food economy, a healthy and just community, and a well-stewarded, resilient foodshed.

Published in 2016, the Santa Barbara County Food Action Plan is a countywide, community-driven strategic plan that assessed and provided recommendations for how we grow, distribute, consume, and dispose of food.

Launched in fall of 2019, SBCFAN received its 501c3 status earlier this year and demand for its areas of work (working groups, resource sharing, advocacy) continues to increase. We are seeking individuals with a passion for our mission and who can help us achieve our strategic goals. As a Board member you will contribute to the governance of the organization, providing leadership, oversight, planning, ideas, and networks so that we continue to grow, engage, and partner with communities across the region – from producer to consumer. In return, you get to directly enable the building of regional food system resilience with a dynamic and committed team.

We are looking for Board members to serve for two or three year terms who have experience or knowledge in areas such as:

  • Accounting/Bookkeeping;
  • Food Enterprise/Cooperative;
  • Nonprofit knowledge in nutrition security and/or agriculture;
  • Grower/shipper from small agriculture or big agriculture;
  • Aggregator/Distributor;
  • Food production, processing, aggregation, and/or distribution;
  • Legal, ideally with knowledge of the nonprofit sector and human resources.

The SBCFAN Board is responsible for the health and sustainability of the organization. The Board partners with the Executive Director to inform organizational policies and the strategic direction of SBCFAN.
