Are you looking for a job outside of an office where you can get your hands dirty? That is what we are looking for! This internship is 12 hours a week and 8-10 of those hours every week will be at the Greenhouse and Garden Project weeding, watering, mowing, building beds, assisting other gardeners, fixing irrigation, maintenance of the greenhouse, sweeping and cleaning, organizing the tool shed, and in general helping with day to day upkeep of this community garden. This intern will work closely with the student and staff garden managers of GHGP as well as the plot owners. The intern may also assist the garden manager with onboarding new members. The garden intern will also be responsible for scheduling garden leadership meetings and keeping attendance at volunteer days and events and typing in those contacts weekly into our volunteer tracking spreadsheet. The student will be expected to manage volunteer days on most weekends. These are usually on Saturdays in the late morning and sometimes on Sundays as well. The student selected will also be expected to check email twice a day and to respond in a timely manner to emails from the garden managers.
The Greenhouse and Garden Project is a plot-based community garden home to about 60 different members. It has been in its current location since the early 1980s making it one of our oldest community gardens on campus or in Isla Vista. GHGP is between Harder Stadium and Los Carneros Road (at the end of the long thin parking lot to the West of Harder Stadium).
