Lompoc Community Access Center

Making long-term changes in the health, nutrition, and independence of those facing food insecurity is a key component of the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County’s mission, and is the goal of their Lompoc community access center, @AlmaCenaSana. Translated as “Healthy Soul Dinner” and “Healthy Pantry,” the center welcomes whole families each Wednesday to take part in fun cooking demos, exercise classes and other health-oriented activities with partner organizations. Families go home with free fresh produce and healthy groceries. Over 2,000 residents have participated since it opened nearly a year ago.

This community-centered approach is vital to the Santa Barbara County Food Action Plan, which together with @SantaBarbaraFoundation provided seed funding for the center. With the belief that sustainability is essential for our wellness, community, economy, and environment, the Food Action Plan is working to build a more resilient, long-lasting, and nutrition-oriented food system through collaboration and community investment.
